The Delta State Police Command has debunked rumors implicating Pastor David Favour Love in the sudden death of his wife, Chief Love Shimite Bello, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export. Contrary to earlier reports that erroneously cast suspicion on Pastor Love, the police have clarified that he is not a suspect but is in protective custody due to threats from the deceased’s family. This revelation has redirected attention to a thorough investigation into the cause of Shimite Bello’s tragic passing on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Superintendent Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that Pastor Love alerted authorities about his wife’s death, reporting that she passed away early Sunday morning after a brief illness. Fearing for his safety due to threats from Shimite’s family, he sought police protection. “He was the one who called to report that his wife died and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” Edafe stated.
Initial reports and unverified social media claims suggested foul play, with some alleging domestic violence or poisoning. Edafe dismissed these as “social media propaganda” lacking evidence, affirming that Pastor Love is not under arrest but is being protected. While Shimite’s family has lodged a complaint prompting a probe, no evidence links her husband to any wrongdoing.
The police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of Shimite’s death at St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba. “In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” Edafe noted, promising transparency. The body remains in a mortuary pending examination.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori mourned Shimite, describing her as a “charismatic and accomplished” figure whose contributions to Delta State were immense. Known as “Madam Sabificate,” Shimite was a respected public servant and former Executive Secretary of the Delta State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency.
The false portrayal of Pastor Love as a suspect has sparked calls for accountability for misinformation. An unverified X post claiming Shimite died of hypertension with multi-organ damage has not been confirmed, and the police urge caution until official findings are released.
As Delta State mourns, this blog calls for patience and justice. Pastor Love, a grieving husband, deserves support, not suspicion, as the truth emerges. Updates will follow as the investigation progresses.

We should really hear both sides of a story before concluding.
