DELTA APC: WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING

By Comrade Lucky Futughe

The stage is now set for all political parties to begin campaigns with the quest to solicit votes from the people. This is characterized by candidates showcasing projects executed by their political parties to convince voters of better deals going forward. No doubt, Delta State is a strategic State in Nigeria because of the occurrence of enormous crude oil and gas reservoirs. Hence, the State is of strategic relevance locally, nationally, and internationally.

The build-up to the 2015 general elections was characterized by deceit and or lies that hoodwinked voters for the All Progressive Congress (APC). They promised change but never told Nigerians what kind of change they were bringing. They tagged the Peoples Democratic Party as fantastically corrupt and clueless but the past seven years have proven to the world that APC is indeed the founder of corruption and cluelessness. It is an administration where chickens, monkeys, snakes, and goats have been shamelessly credited with having swallowed funds meant for infrastructural development without any prosecution.

With the eventual swearing-in of President Mohammadu Buhari as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the democratic architecture collapsed completely and ubiquitous disregard for the rule of law which is the cornerstone of our democracy was unleashed on the polity. The woes of the country were further compounded by the weak Senator Ahmed Lawan-led legislature in which Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege is a ranking officer. Rather than make laws for the collective good of Nigerians, federal lawmakers resorted to targeting specific individuals or States as boasted by Delta Central-born Senator Omo-Agege when he said he wrote the Electoral Act to take advantage of the peculiar nature of Delta State. This parochialism by the Buhari-led government was heralded by huge capital flight, insecurity, infrastructural collapse, and poverty, as foreign investors divested from Nigeria and sought safer havens elsewhere. This affected the nation's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which fell from $10 billion to less than $2 billion.

The APC have the unenviable record of making Nigeria the poverty capital of the world while the people were thrown into abject poverty underscored with pervading insecurity. The masses cannot afford to accept their toxic lies. The governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State is known to be a serial liar. The Senator from Delta Central failed to live up to expectations despite being not just a ranking Senator but the number six citizen of the country as the Deputy Senate President.

Although the Senate has continually approved humongous loans for the APC-led Federal Government, Delta State did not derive any benefit, but bore the brunt of the heightened insecurity and disruption of the economy. Plainly, DSP Omo-Agege is responsible for the failure of Deltans in being part of the scheme of things at the federal level. The East-West Road, Sapele-Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku-Agbor road as well as the Igbanke-Uromi road have become symbols of the unrivaled failure of the APC. The unchecked insecurity in Delta State, especially in Uwheru and Abraka axis orchestrated by Fulani invaders has displaced many farmers with the inevitable threat of food insecurity exacerbating the poverty level.

These challenges are direct impact of DSP Ovie Omo-Agege's poor representation of Delta State and South-South in his otherwise exalted position.

The Orogun-born Senator lost his voice in the National Assembly by keeping mute while trying to blame Delta State Government for the failed policies of the Federal Government which have affected Nigerians adversely. On the floor of the Senate, he is always missing in action when burning national issues are being deliberated even when his counterparts from the North are speaking up. The two-term Senator is usually quiet to the irritation of the region and his constituents.

Furthermore, Deltans should remember the cost of Premium Motor Spirit otherwise known as petrol, diesel, foodstuffs, exchange rates, rent, transportation, and construction prior to 2015 and what it is as at today. The sufferings of the people are a direct impact of the failed APC-led Federal Government policies. DSP Ovie Omo-Agege should ask for forgiveness from Deltans for misleading them into believing the 'Change' mantra and 'Next level' agenda of a clueless government driven by lies from the pit of hell. The All Progressive Congress is made up of wolves in sheep's clothing looking for how to gain access to Government funds to perpetually impoverish Deltans and Nigerians in general.

Therefore, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, its Presidential flagbearer, with the albatross of drug running still hanging on his neck, and DSP Ovie Omo-Agege, the unrepentant liar, should be rejected at the polls. Nigerians cannot afford to make the same mistake thrice because citizens are already in hell under this administration.
