Mayuku sponsors free cataracts surgeries and eye treatment for Warri.
Several residents turned out for the FREE CATARACT SURGERIES and eye check-up organized by Hon. Daniel Mayuku in conjunction with the African Cataract and Eye foundation at the Agbowu Clinic off Ekurede Itsekiri Road Warri.
Hon Daniel Mayuku who is currently the Executive Director of Projects in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) was present at the Agbowo Clinic and was greeted by a massive crowd waiting to be checked.
Dr. Okorodudu, The Medical Officer-in-Charge expressed surprise at the huge turnout of patients while admitting that the eye mission was an eye-opener to the high prevalence of visual impairment in Warri and encourage others to take advantage of the 2-day program.
The team is expected to perform the free surgical operation on 40 cataract patients for a start both in Benin and Warri, adding that the number could be exceeded based on the needs and capacity of the group.“The project was done to restore the sight of those affected by cataract and unable to undergo surgeries independently due to financial challenges.
The Nigeria National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey in 2005-2008 estimated that about 2.8 million adults aged 40 years and above in Nigeria has a moderate optical impairment and an additional 500,000 adults are severely visually impaired. Also, about 5 million adults aged 40 years and above in Nigeria are visually impaired or blind.
